Beautifully executed Gouache miniature painting of Roman ruins and figures. It is attributed to Giovanni Paolo Panini (1691-1765). Panini created large canvases of architectural capriccio motifs. He painted fantasy scenes, including ruins and monuments, along with classical sculptures and staffage figures. Panini was known for his detailed depiction of Rome’s iconic landmarks. On demand from foreign visitors, he also painted miniature -postcards- of ancient
