Country of collection: Bayeux, France. Normandy region.
On a trip to the northwestern region of France, Normandy, in the town of Bayeux I stumbled upon a 'brocante" (a.k.a. flea market). It was actually a senior couple who owned a small store and have been appointed by the towns Chamber of Commerce since they are native to the region to be proprietors of the antique store.
This is a Norman French pitcher made of solid oak wood and copper. The copper shows off through the arched handle, spout, and four bands which surround the body of the pitcher lending some character to its classic shape. Asking the gentleman what this was used for and what era, he said, "Cider. This one was from the 1920's. In which this type of vessel is still used today." Won't you make this classic piece a “keeper” in your home?
