Rosenlaube is an amazing black and white etching on paper, realized in 1909 by the German painter, Bruno Héroux (Leipzig, 1868-1944). Signature and Title in pencil on lower left margin, a little signature etched on plate in capital letter on lower right margin. This wonderful original print representing an enchanted garden in which a man is playing the violin, executing a Brahm's lied for to his woman, curled up on his feet in an extremely intimate and romantic attitude, is from the series "Vae Solis". Under the image engraved, musical notes from a Brahm's Lied, a remarque of the musician portrait, and a drypoint etching representing a circle of children. Beautiful impression, in excellent condition, with a usual yellowing of paper and some minor and imperceptible stains on margins. A breathtaking modern artwork with symbolistic influences, with an artist debt of Max Klinger, only for sensible souls would have at home a romantic corner of meditation and would lose in beauty. Reference: Liebsch, n. 326 Louis Carl Bruno Héroux (Leipzig, 1868-1944) The German painter from a Huguenot family and son of engraver, Bruno Héroux, follows the teachings of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig where he excels in xylography very quickly. from 1900 to 1910, he exhibited his paintings and engravings at the Salon of French Artists in Paris and obtained the Honorable Mention in 1906. His style, close to symbolism, evolved to the Jugendstil, and was praised by an artist like Max Klinger. He was soon at the center of the Leipzig School (Leipziger Künstlervereins) and some of his drawings were used to decorate buildings in Leipzig. He is the author of several hundred original engravings (some of which, erotic, are now very popular), and illustrated a large number of books. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
