Finely painted depictions of the sixteen arhats … Read more Japanese Juroku Rakkan scroll by Senkoku, freely drawn with colored inks on silk. Finely painted depictions of the sixteen arhats of Zen Buddhism, the original disciples of the Buddha, in various poses, amid interiors and landscapes, with Buddhist symbols, acolytes and animals. The ink inscription by the artist on the lower left of the image says: “Long life of 85 years in a grotto, respectfully and graciously designed by Senkoku”, with two red seal marks. Mounted on a silver and gray paper brocade in a blossom medallions pattern, with fixed futai in the same silver/gray paper brocade, tan paper ten and ji, dark red and cream, silk floral brocade, top and bottom ichimonji, and black jikusaki. The makio and kakio are of a white and black, braided silk, flat cord. The image size is 21 1/2" wide x 44" high. Circa Meiji era See less
