Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro was one of the most influential people of nineteenth century Portuguese culture. In 1884 Bordallo began his ceramics production at the Fábrica de Faianças in Caldas, Portugal revealing pieces of great technical, artistic and creative quality, developing azulejos, panels, pots, table centerpieces, vase busts, fountain basins, pitchers, plates, perfume bottles, and vases- usually adopting the fauna and flora as decorative inspiration. The main ingredients of Bordallo’s productions were color, exuberance and happiness along with a high technical level achieved mainly in modelling and glazing. Maker's backstamp on the back.
