A richly glazed vintage studio pottery bowl with a deep cobalt-blue exterior and loose, hand-painted botanical decoration in cream and earthy brown. Against the saturated blue ground, the spare branches and leaves give the piece an appealing folk-art quality.
The bowl appears wheel-thrown, with subtle throwing lines visible through the glaze and an unglazed stoneware base. The exterior cobalt glaze has wonderful variation—moving from brilliant blue to darker, almost black areas around the rim—with natural speckling and irregularity throughout. Inside, a soft gray-green glaze provides a quiet contrast to the dramatic exterior.
At 8 inches in diameter and 3 inches high, it has enough scale to work as a small serving or fruit bowl while also making a strong decorative piece on open shelving or a tabletop.
The maker is unknown; the base is unmarked. Based on construction and aesthetic, I would conservatively describe it as late-20th-century studio pottery rather than assigning it specifically to the 1990s.
Measures 8” across and 3” tall.
In very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks observed. Natural glaze variation, speckling and irregularities are consistent with its handmade construction. Light surface wear may be present from previous use.
