While Jacob Landau was known for creating works of art in his later years depicting the tension between life and death issues, this 1959 woodcut of one of America's fiercest wildlife conservationists portrays the 26th president permanently intertwined with gnarled wood through his hands, shirt and twigs above his head.
Theodore Roosevelt is seen in this work in profile, with his (in)famous pince-nez glasses with his notable scowl. In Mr. Landau's later works, while also prints, he veered away from using wood, while in this specific piece it seems as though his choice to utilize this type of method further connects Theodore Roosevelt to the natural world and people's ability to help protect the environment surrounding them.
This beautiful and rare signed and numbered print is displayed within an antique Eastlake frame, and remains in good condition. Hanging in direct sunlight is highly discouraged.
