They scholars have Ming … Read more A molded pair of ceramic Antique Chinese figures of scholars resting on rocks and holding books. They scholars have Ming hats and robes. The robes have very muted colors. The details of the figures were sculpted by hand and show much attention to detail.
The bases are unglazed and are impressed with the word CHINA. They have remnants of old paper labels on the backs reading, “MADE IN CHINA CYK – 654”.

Green robed figure - 4 ½” (11.4 cm) tall x 2 3/4” (7.0 cm) deep x 2” (5.1 cm) wide
Yellow robed figure - 4 ½” (11.4 cm) tall x 2 3/4” (7.0 cm) deep x 2 1/4” (5.7 cm) wide
Weighs 13.8 oz (390 g)

CONDITION

The heads of both figures appear to have broken off and been re-glued. There is a tiny piece of the collar missing and a tiny chip on the edge of the green robe. The figure with the green robe also has a couple of chips along the base. The only chip on figure with the yellow robe is a very tiny one on the edge of the base. The glazes on the top of the hats are rough, but otherwise, the glazes are still bright.
