Handcrafted in the Herat Province of … Read more A wonderful, one-of-a-kind, Antique Baluch Balisht tribal bag (or rug - pillow - cushion). Handcrafted in the Herat Province of West Afghanistan during the first quarter of the 20th century, the nomadic tribesmen using these pieces for either storage and transport of grains or personal belongings, or stuffed to make cushions and pillows to lay against. The richly colored and textured, intricately hand-knotted wool tribal bag, circa 1900, is in excellent Condition and presents splendidly. Perfect for use as a wall hanging tapestry, tribal wall art, rug, and even used as a floor or bench cushion. It is complete with the original back, a rarity as most of the bags that have survived have been separated over the last century.

Afghan Belouch weavers are prolific makers of Prayer Rugs, khorjins (saddle-bags), namakdani (salts bags), chanteh (small bags) grand other tribal trappings. Afghan Baluch Rugs tend to have a rather dark appearance yet the designs produced are numerous, each one being unique.
