Stunning, antique, late 19th century Aesthetic Movement style walnut fireplace mantel. This piece features exquisite carving throughout, including substantial and ornately turned, high relief colonettes with twist pattern and intricate foliate carvings. Colonettes rest on block feet with sunburst medallions and extend outward from the paneled jambs. Corners have blocks with additional foliate carving and sunburst medallions. The wide frieze has alternating, stylized rosette and foliate motifs classic to the movement. Firebox is ornamented with an alternating pattern of fleur-de-lis and rosettes. There is a small "ball and stick" gallery over the opening.
