After working in Stuttgart (1656), Prague, Dresden (1659-1660), Vienna and Salzburg, he spent his last four years in Freising, where he worked for Archbishop Albrecht Sigismund von Bayern. He married twice. Throughout his life he faced financial difficulties. His oil and fresco paintings show dark images of everyday life. His genre paintings, rural stories and still lifes are famous; he also painted portraits. The Diocesan Museum in Freisinger has the largest collection of his work (15 in total); other works are scattered throughout Europe. See less
