Sumptuous wool shag rug, sourced directly from a cooperative in northern Morocco's Atlas Mountains. Beni Ourain rugs are known to be the most spectacular and luxurious of all Moroccan rugs, and some of the finest in the world.
Beni Ourain rugs are pile-knot rugs intricately designed with traditional geometric motifs. A little-known bonus is that Beni Ourain rugs are designed as two-sided rugs. There is the summer side, when the pile side is placed face down on the ground to keep things cooler. During the winter, the pile side is placed up to keep things warmer. Perfect to put next to the bed.
The carpets are made with natural wool from the local sheep and cotton yarn handmade or bought from the village market. Depending on the size of the rug, it can take weeks to create. Each knot is individually tied and cut, resulting in about one meter of rug in two weeks.
These pile-knot carpets are plush and warm, about and inch thick and extremely cozy. This type of carpet has been made in this region of Morocco for centuries and is traditionally one of the first items that a woman will weave for her new home upon marriage.
Gorgeous rug, so luxurious. Made of plush thick sheep wool. Hand-dyed using all natural dyes: rich red, cobalt blue and beige. Handmade by native Moroccan weavers.
