Exquisite Japanese contemporary framed oshi-e wall decorative art piece, featuring a Japanese Bijin-ga (beautiful Lady) holding a fan with cherry blossom petals inside. The hair style, the style of the kimono and the way it is worn represent the Meiji era. This traditional Japanese decorative art form known as oshie (literally, “pressed pictures”). In other regions is called: Hakata okiage. The Hakata Okiage craft holds significant cultural heritage, dating back 400 years. This artistic process involves pasting fabric onto a wooden board or thick paper and sculpting it to create a stunning 3D effect. The head of the lady is made of bisque. Everything is hand-deocrated with natural materials such as kimono fabric.
It is said that this art form was born of the reluctance of ladies of the court and elite aristocratic women to discard the magnificent silk kimonos and brocaded obi they had donned for a lifetime. The solution was to recycle these opulent fabrics into stunning works of art, and this elaborate Japanese decorative art form was born.
