This lovely set was quite the find. We fell in love with the faux bamboo bird frame immediately. Each painting is signed by the artist D. Yost, and framed in a custom wood frame with glass. Each bird is in a yellow mustard with muted pink heads and a white breast with black spots. Each sits upon a brown branch with green leaves. The background of each watercolor appears to look like wood grain. It might be a type of vinyl, on which the watercolor is painted directly on top of. One of the pieces has a loose back, and we were able to examine it outside of the frame. These were purchased in Chicago at a popular design showroom perhaps in the 1950s. There are not any dates, but judging by others we've found by House of Baldwin, we believe that these are in the same era. This pair would be a great addition to any space to add a hint of traditional style. Hang it on a gallery wall in a grouping of other chinoiserie-style paintings, or alone perhaps in a powder bath.
