Annabelle Selldorf is the queen of stealthy architec- ture. Not for her the big move: she really can’t stand a wow factor. Instead, the wry German 53-year-old has wooed the art world – whose key figures frequently knock on her door – with designs that exude quiet con- fidence. More recently, she applied the same rules to a state-of-the-art recycling centre just outside New York, where she lives.
Next on her list is a major addition to a prestigious Californian museum. She might have started small, but now Annabelle is building very big indeed.
