Mid Century Figurative Tonalist Landscape - The Search
A dreamlike landscape by Winifred Lucy Shaffer (American, 20th Century). Several figures are clustered together in a forest setting. There is light streaming in from the distance, creating elongated, exaggerated shadows and strong contrast between light and dark.
Signed lower right; signed and titled on verso.
Displayed in wood and giltwood frame.

Winifred Lucy Shaffer was active and lived in California and Missouri. Shaffer was an interior decorator in Los Angeles in 1940. By 1960 she had moved to the San Francisco bay area. Winifred Shaffer is known for watercolor painting and modernist free flowing landscapes.
