Italian, probably Naples, circa 1860–1880.

This finely carved Victorian cameo is executed in natural shell relief, skillfully using the layered tones of the material to create a luminous contrast between the ivory-toned figure and the warm peach background. The profile is refined and beautifully balanced, with delicately carved features, softly curled hair, and a classical helmet inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity.

The cameo remains mounted in its original 10K yellow gold frame, stamped “10K” on the reverse. It retains its original hinged pin stem, traditional C-clasp, and folding pendant bail — allowing the piece to be worn either as a brooch or pendant.

Measuring approximately 1.65 inches (42 mm) by 1.37 inches (35 mm), the cameo has an elegant presence while remaining highly wearable.

Condition: Excellent antique condition. The shell remains crisp and well-preserved, with no visible cracks or restorations. The gold mount and fittings are original and function properly.

Origin: Italy (probably Naples).

A beautifully preserved and unquestionably authentic Victorian jewel — elegant, wearable, and richly representative of the 19th-century Classical Revival taste, rather than a later tourist cameo. See less
