A set of 6 expensively and beautifully framed Shunga panels - 12 pieces in 6 frames. The quality of these frames is suberb - lustrous birds eye maple, very irredescent. The 12 bone panels are protected behind glass and mounted on cafe au lait coloured felt, inset shadow box style. Remains of red and green ink on the panels. Landscape, garden pavillion and interior settings.
Backed with tradtional mid century red/gold paper. (One piece has a small tear on the back/verso about 1" long we need to mention).
Condition is excellent - they have been treasured.
This is a superb set, very tastefully framed and the set is bound to call attention where ever they are hung!
Each measures approx. 13" sq. and 1.3" deep.

Most Shunga was created by artists from the popular school, ukiyo-e, “pictures of the floating world,” a genre of painting mainly illustrating life’s pleasures.
Shunga (春画) is a type of Japanese art typically executed as a kind of ukiyo-e, often in woodblock print format.
