Such family crests were of extreme importance to nobles and families related to royalty as such associations set them apart from their peers and established their importance in European society.

Inscription in Latin at the bottom translates to "Vigilance and Wisdom", then underneath that signed by the artist named D. Johan Seger and dated October 15, 1738.
