At it''s heart a love story between Cash and fellow country music star June Carter, played by Reese Witherspoon, the film is a rollercoaster ride from traumatic childhood to country music stardom, through descent into addiction until Cash is saved from self-destruction by long-term love June. with remarkable performances from Phoenix and Witherspoon, both of whom performed their own vocals, the film was nominated for five Oscars at the 78th Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Actress for Witherspoon, which she won.
