André Aucoc (1856-1911) was a famous goldsmith and jeweler in Paris during the late 19th and very early 20th centuries. He was born into the family business, the Aucoc firm, which was established in 1821. The Aucoc firm distinguished itself by designing for the House of King Louis Philippe, the House of Orleans, Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie. From 1874-1876 René Lalique was a disciple of Aucoc. This buillotte lamp is marked with the French hallmark for sterling silver (950,) Minerva’s head with headdress in a hexagonal box, and “A. Aucoc” for André Aucoc. The lamp is engineered so that the shade can be moved up or down the central support rod, as can the candle holders themselves.
This Aucoc buillotte candle lamp is in very good original condition. There is a slight dip in one bobeche rim with a spot of discoloration. Please see photos.
