Born in Denmark, Frederick Korburg first studied at the Graphic Art Center in Copenhagen and, subsequently, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg under Max Lieberman. After moving to California in 1920, Korburg furthered his studies with Armin Hansen in Carmel before settling in San Francisco in 1924 and working as a cartoonist for the Call-Bulletin. In time, Korburg was appointed the San Francisco Call-Bulletin's art director and, through wide distribution by Hearst papers, became well known for his graphic work and satirical cartoons of political, theatrical and sporting personalities and events. Over the course of a long career, Frederick Korburg was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. He exhibited widely and with success including at the San Francisco Art Association (1937) , the Oakland Art Gallery and Palo Alto's Los Robles Galleries which held several one-man exhibitions of his work.
