Framed dimensions: 23.5 H x 2.5 D x 25.25 H inches
Displayed in a carved 22kt gilt-wood frame by Richard Tobey & Sons.
A delicate, oil still-life showing a variety of pears in a ceramic bowl set on a draped table with a wicker mat. A lyrical Post-Impressionist work by this rare Philadelphia woman artist whose portrait hangs in the Friend's Room of Ashcraft House, part of the Bosler Memorial Library in Carlisle.
Eleida Herman Bosler Ashcraft was born at Carlisle, Pennsylvania, into the Bosler clan that helped shape the town’s civic life; her father, the merchant-industrialist Joseph Bosler, partnered in business with his brother J. Herman Bosler, later namesake and principal benefactor of the Bosler Memorial Library.
In Carlisle, on June 18, 1908, she married the Philadelphia physician Leon Thomas Ashcraft and thereafter divided her time between her natal community and Philadelphia, where her husband’s medical and club affiliations were centered.
