This vintage Turkish kilim measures 3'6" x 3'7", and was hand-woven using wool on a wool foundation in Turkey's Oushak region. Kilims and flat weaves are unique in their lack of pile - the warp and weft strands are tightly interwoven to create a flat surface. These rugs are typically produced on horizontal looms, resulting in crisp geometrical designs. Lighter in weight and softer to the touch than traditional pile rugs, kilims were also multi-purpose, serving as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, table covers, wall hangings, and even insulation against extreme cold.
