Carl Niederer first studied art at the University of Oregon and, subsequently, with Fernand Leger in Paris. After service in WW2, he sketched, painted and studied throughout Asia, traveling by steamer ship. In the 1960's, Niederer worked as both an artist and industrial designer in San Francisco and New York. He exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes and juried awards. A noted teacher, Niederer later became Head of the Art Department at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
