Signed Upper Left "Tosca", and painted 1948.
Provenance: Mongerson Wunderlich Galleries, Chicago
Exhibited: New Directions in American Painting, Carnegie Institute, 1941
Daughter of the artist, Ivan Olinsky, Tosca was born in Italy and studied first with her father and, subsequently, at both the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League in New York. A prodigious talent, she was elected to early membership of both the National Academy of Design and the American National Academy. She exhibited widely and with success throughout the United States, winning a variety of prestigious medals, prizes and juried awards. We are pleased to offer this elegant and austere still-life which was exhibited at the Carnegie Institute in 1941. Painted when Olinsky was in her early thirties, it shows both a monumentality of conception and an intuitive sense of texture.
