Bio:
MAUREEN BECK
The art of Maureen Beck is non-representational, or non-objective- presenting no recognizable subject matter; although some people do relate to it with a feeling of landscape. The paintings not planned and fully organized in advance begin with a general layout idea and colors from her acrylic palette. The artist prefers to then let what happens on the canvas happen, and many times the painting begin to carry her along---caught up in the process of painting.
Maureen responds emotionally not to any one color, but to the way colors combine with each other. She is drawn to the earthy colors- blacks, browns, burgundies, rusts, greys, camels, golds. And the colors she will choose to begin a work may be determined by her psychological and emotional states at that time. As a mood may change by the next day, so the painting may also change.
As an artist aware that she creates from her own unique and individual experiences, Maureen recognizes that the viewer comes to her art with his or her own experiences, so, the feelings and responses her work evokes in the viewer may be entirely different from that which she was feeling as she was painting.
Maureen affirms an "artist's work goes through an evolutionary process, and the more I experience, the more I experiment. My way of seeing and feeling is my way and what happens in my art is a total of and an integration of my experience, which I express through color, line, shapes, and forms."
One Woman Shows presented by this artist in addition to C.G. Rein Galleries, include those at the Jewish Community Center of Minneapolis, Temple of Aaron Synagogue, St. Paul, Friends Art Gallery, Minneapolis Institute of Art and Contemporary Designs.
