This original woodblock print dates to the first half of the 19th century (Edo Period) and is the work of Utagawa Hiroshige.

Hiroshige is regarded as one of the greatest and one of the last artists within the world of ukiyo-e paintings and woodblock prints.

His pieces have been displayed in legendary galleries and museums across the globe, including the Metropolitan in New York.

This signed print comes from the series, "The Fifty-Three Battles of the Tokaido."
"The Fifty-three Pairs of the Tokaido" is a set of large-format vertical nishiki-e prints. They were created by the late Edo period Utagawa school ukiyo-e artists Utagawa Kuniyoshi , Utagawa Hiroshige , and Utagawa Toyokuni III . Most of the works feature portraits of figures from historical events, Japanese legends, and kabuki plays associated with each of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido. They are thought to have been created between 1844 and 1847.

This particular print is signed by Hiroshige on the lower right hand side. The upper right corner reads, "東海道 五十三對 (Tokaido, 53 Pieces)." The writing above the woman (upper left) reads, "Viewing cherry blossoms on a trip."
