This set of eleven (11) authentic early 18th century original chiaroscuro woodcuts (c.1708) after the original drawings by Hubert Goltzius. (Dutch, 1526–1583) depict Roman emperors and historical rulers. On the reverse of each is a description in Latin. Published in Antwerp, Belgium in 1708. These prints are rare and it is difficult to acquire sets of more than 3 or 4 of these woodcuts. Most retail prices range between $200-$350 each. Dimensions: Apprx. . 9" x 11" plus folds at top and bottom of sheet (each fold apprx. 1") ; each medallion apprx. 7" diameter. Great for one huge wall trearment or several smaller groupings. This series by Goltzius was featured at the Cincinnati Art Museum several years ago. We viewed the collection at the museum and have been fortunate enough to acquire a fairly substantial collection. Please see our other listings from this series.
