I think they may be sterling, not plate. There is no mark to indicate they are plate. I have hardly had to polish them, they keep their shine. I am including the box, because that is how I bought them, but one side of the box is missing on the bottom. Nevertheless, The box has helped shield them from tarnishing for many years, so I am sending it. less
