Each vase depicts two men in beautifully patterned clothing, with a mountain landscape and a stylized Japanese rising sun on the back. The vases, adorned with gilt rims, gilded handles at the shoulder, and three ball feet, are nearly identical but display slight variations due to their hand-painted nature. Without stamps or signatures, dating these Satsuma ware vases is challenging, but their finely crackled glaze and bodies which do not "ring" (as opposed to porcelain) when tapped, suggest they are authentic earthenware vases and older, possibly pre-1870.
