johan erik lindh was the son of a soldier. He studied at the swedish art academy until 1814 and then gained further experience in a painter's workshop. In 1817 he went to kokkola and decorated the courthouse there with paintings. In 1827 he went from turku to helsinki. During the 1830s he was one of the few artists there who could make a living from their art. His works were exhibited for the first time in 1847. He created paintings for the churches in kokkola, oravais and tenala. Today he is best known for his portrait paintings. His works can be found in the finnish national museum, the helsinki municipal art museum and the turku historical museum.
