It … Read more This midcentury Murano glass table lamp is crafted in the style of renowned glassmaker Dino Martens for Aureliano Toso. It features a tiered geometric polished brass base supporting a slender, columnar body made of hand-blown glass. The glass is decorated with thin diagonal aventurine and white ribbon striping, known as filigrana. Aventurine is a technique involving surface effects with gold flecks, originating in the 15th century. Filigrana, used since the 16th century, involves applying transparent colorless glass canna with a colored glass core.

Dino Martens, born in Venice, attended the Accademia di Belle Arti and initially worked as a painter. In the 1920s, he moved to Murano and briefly worked as a decorator for the glass factory S.A.L.I.R. He later became the artistic director of Aureliano Toso, a Murano glasshouse founded in 1938. Martens worked there from 1939 to 1963.

This lamp exemplifies the traditional glassmaking techniques of Murano, combining historical craftsmanship with functional design.
