A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road".
Forty-Fifth station: Shono. In the title block: "The Downpour". The village of Shono was known for its bamboos that can be seen bending in the wind and the downpour. On the right, a traveler with an umbrella on which are written the characters TAKENOUCHI, the name of the series: The Fifty-Three Stations. Next to the traveler, a peasant with his hoe on his shoulder. Two bearers of a light palanquin climb the slope, preceded by a peasant in a straw coat. The original artwork is traditionally appreciated for its pictorial composition and the delicacy of the colors.
This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed.
