A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road".
Forty-First Station: Miya. In the title block: "Religious ceremony of the Atsuta Sanctuary", one of the three great Shinto temples where the sacred sword, the imperial emblem, is kept. It is the festival of the last day of the sixth lunar month. Two horses pull the two sacred chariots, which are still within the temple grounds and which cannot be seen.
This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed.
Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XLII.
Nearly excellent condition - minor edge wear, it was pinned in the past, two tiny holes very close to the top corners were smoothed and are barely visible, never framed.
