A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road".
Before arriving at the twenty-third station: Shimada, one must cross the Oi River which name is indicated in the red stamp. The procession of a high official waits for the crossing to be organized. To the right of the lord's palanquin, seven archers sit and four halberdiers stand; the other samurais carrying two swords watches over the baggage and horses.
This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed.
Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high-quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XXIV.
