A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road".
Twentieth Station: Mariko. In the title block: "The tea house known for its specialty." On the right, the well-known small tea house mentioned by poets and novelists of that time. The sign announces: "Known specialty (Meibutsu), yam soup (Tororo-jiru)." Two travelers served by the owner are enjoying the soup. On the left, a peasant continues on his way. It is the beginning of spring, and the plum tree is in bloom.
This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed.
Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high-quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XXI.
Nearly excellent condition - minor edge wear, it was pinned in the past, two tiny holes very close to the top corners were smoothed, never framed.
