Exquisite example of late 19th Century Chinese artistry. Large papier-marche scallop shell catchall in traditional red lacquer accented with gilt gold decorative scene of a garden scene with ladies, floral shrubs, gateway and a tree and in the distance a group of houses all in black and gold leaf gilding. Classic Chinese decoration. Dated around 1870-1880's. Wonderful patina.
