Crafted in France circa 1870, each oil painting on board is inspired by the work of French artist Édouard Debat-Ponsan (1847–1913) and presented in its original richly carved giltwood frame, embellished with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and decorative moldings.

The first painting depicts a peaceful countryside scene featuring a young shepherdess standing beside a grazing cow and calf near a stone bridge. In the background, a mounted farmer guides additional cattle along a country path, surrounded by lush green meadows, trees, and a distant village.

The second composition portrays a rustic farmyard scene beneath a leafy tree. A barefoot farmer carrying his tools pauses to converse with a seated woman dressed in pink, while two oxen stand nearby. The detailed figures, naturalistic animals, and soft earthy palette convey the charm of traditional French agricultural life.

Both paintings are signed in the lower right corner, one inscribed d’après Debat-Ponsan, indicating a work after the artist. The pendants are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining rich colors and beautifully aged giltwood frames.

Édouard Debat-Ponsan was a French academic painter born in Toulouse in 1847. He studied under Alexandre Cabanel at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in 1870. Known for his historical compositions, portraits, landscapes, and realistic depictions of peasant life, he became an established figure in late 19th-century French painting. His work is documented in the Bénézit Dictionary of Artists.
