PAIR OF FRENCH MODERNE OAK BOOKCASES
One larger, one smaller, each with sliding glass doors | unmarked | circa 1960s
Item # 402XAP21S
A very relevant and useful pair of bookcases for today's interior, these were carefully designed in a way that makes them largely eternally gorgeous. With a raised geometric latticework on the lower doors forming diamonds, the bookcases are otherwise free of distraction or embellishment. They are designed to let the natural beauty of the oak veneers create all of the texture and visual interest; these have beautifully aged and patinated over the decades to create the mellow surfaces we have today.
They are made in two parts to allow both to be easily moved around a room.
The upper doors are glass panes that travel in channels to allow easy access to the adjustably-shelved interior. The lower doors each retain their original keys and hold two adjustable shelves as well. Note that the bookcases are perfectly complimentary, made as a pair, but of different dimensions: one slightly more petite.
Measurements: [larger bookcase] 78 1/2" H x 16 1/2" D x 37 1/4" W; [smaller bookcase] 78 1/4" H x 14 1/2" D x 29 1/2" W
Condition Report: No key for the small lock at the bottom of the door on the larger cabinet; key retained for each cabinet for the middle locks; some color variation from time and sun exposure through the decades; very minor scuffing to the glass doors; tiny veneer losses to the sides of the upper bookcases that have been filled and colored; a very fine presentation.
