40-year-old hand-carved wood bowl from the Appalachian region, crafted from solid cherry and signed by the maker. The elongated, organic form makes it ideal for use on a dining or coffee table, console, or kitchen island. It may be referred to as a canoe bowl, long dough bowl, bread bowl, or trencher. In the style of a large Arthur Umanoff organic bowl.
The bowl was commissioned for John J. McMahon, an NBC Hollywood executive, and his wife, who resided in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. McMahon worked on projects such as Little House on the Prairie, The Facts of Life, and the Academy Award–nominated film The Big Chill. The bowl was acquired from his Brentwood estate.
