They are woven in workshops of the city of Kashan, in north-central Iran. Kashan was a hub of silk production since the Safavid dynasty and has created some of the highest quality Persian silk rugs. During the latter part of the 19th century, weavers also began to produce high-quality wool rugs and carpets, continuing the high standards of technique and design of the Safavid era.
