A striking rare original period photogravure after painting "Port of Acre" by Romanian-born Israel artist Marcel Jancu. Comes from a rare art folio printed in Switzerland in 1953. Printed on one side. Signed in the print at the lower right corner. Hand tipped-in on an insert of heavy paper. Information regarding the original artwork in Hebrew, English and French will be found by lifting the piece. Excellent condition - very light tanning on the insert, some age wear at the right edge of the insert, never framed.

Marcel Jancu was born in 1895 in Bucharest and studied at the academy of Josef Isser, afterwards going abroad to continue his studies. He moved to Zurich in the beginning of WWI where he became one of the founders of the Dada movement. . Through this period of his life he remained faithful to his own artistic line. After the Dada movement broke up, he returned to Bucharest where he continued to paint. In 1942, in the middle of WWII he arrived in Eretz Israel and since then participated in the artistic life of the country making an important contribution to Israel creative art. He is attractive, seductive and surprising with his symbols, which derive from the abstractionist experiments and determine his pictorial path.
