Monumental Royal Worcester porcelain vase, with a bottle-shaped form, fitted as a table lamp. It has richly gilt molded handles, rim, and foot, while the body is decorated with raised metallic gilt and pale green birds perched on bamboo branches against an ivory-colored ground.
An impressive statement piece for an entryway, console, or end table, it also makes a luxurious wedding gift for antique porcelain enthusiasts.
Similar vases in this shape, but with different decorations, are part of The Met's Japonisme porcelain collection and have also been retailed by Tiffany & Co.
The underside is fully marked with:
Artist’s Signature: Hand-painted interlaced letter monogram "LB," indicating Len Burgess (1861-1935), a RW decorator known for his raised gold paste work, which created a textured, three-dimensional effect on porcelain.
Victoria Regina Mark: Molded "VR" for Queen Victoria.
