An antique hand-colored engraved bookplate of Nuneham House in Clifton Hampden, Oxfordshire, England. This print is professionally framed in a beveled wood frame with a marbled purple mat. The engraving is by John Charles Varrall, a well-known landscape and architectural engraver during his time. (1795 - 1855) The piece is a beautiful engraving of the home sitting upon a lush green landscape. Horses walk in the foreground, and sailboats sail along the river Thames. An elaborate border of architectural motifs surrounds the piece. A banner at the top reads "Le bon temps viendra" meaning, "The Good Times will Come". The home was built for the first Earl Harcourt, Simon Harcourt, a leading courtier of George III, and is a good example of the villa revival style. The house overlooks the River Thames and the Oxfordshire countryside and has been the home of the Harcourt family and their visitors for almost 300 years. Today, the estate is known as the Global Retreat Centre.
Printed toward the bottom center is the following:
J.C. Varrall , so.
Nuneham Courteney

This piece has not been examined outside the frame. It looks thick, and could possibly have another print behind it, or it may just be a piece of cardboard. Hanging hardware is affixed to the back for easy hanging.
