Handcrafted in Normandy, France circa 1920, the substantial birds are made of concrete and stand on individual rectangular bases, each weighing approximately 86 pounds.

The lifelike sculptures depict the birds in an upright position, with elongated necks, slender pointed beaks, and carefully modeled bodies. Their wings are embellished with raised feather detailing, while the contrasting black tail plumage adds definition to their graceful silhouettes. Each bird stands on two long, straight legs with individually sculpted feet resting on a textured rectangular base. The bases are further decorated with real seashells embedded in the surface, adding an unusual coastal element to the composition.

The original painted finish features soft white bodies accented with black wing and tail feathers, long orange-red beaks, and reddish legs. The surfaces display an attractive weathered patina, with natural wear, discoloration, and areas of worn paint that emphasize their age and history of outdoor use.

Designed as complementary sculptures, the two birds form a striking pair of pendants that can be displayed together or positioned on either side of a garden pathway, courtyard entrance, or terrace.
