Chinese sea dragon scroll, ink on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering light and dark gray, sky blue and silver, … Read more Chinese sea dragon scroll, ink on heavy paper, mounted on a shimmering light and dark gray, sky blue and silver, silk brocade in a dragon medallions, lattice pattern, with a black silk makio and kakeo at the top and dark mahogany jikusaki at the bottom. Signed by the artist near the top right with one red seal mark, with a signed honorific in caoshu script with two seal marks and with four, red, collector's seals on the bottom left of the image and two on the bottom right. The outer scroll cover is raw silk. Image is 24.75" wide x 51.5" high. Circa Republic of China era, no later than mid century.

One, finely drawn, three-clawed, sea dragon leaps out of surging ocean waves and whitecaps bringing the thunderclouds and rains, depicted with a chimu and wearing horns, long whiskers and shoulder flames. See less
