Exceptional and truly wonderful sculpture by Thomassie Tookalook (aka Tamusi Qumalu Tukula, b. 1945) of Povungnituk. This piece is dated 1980.
This sculpture makes an immediate statement and showcases the traditional, high quality artistry of Tookalook, a favorite artist amongst collectors of Inuit art. The carving is classic, in rendering the subject in simplified, naturalistic forms with wonderful movement.
