This set of four (4) iconic modernist lithographs (offset) by the world famous artist Marc Chagall (Russia/France 1887-1985) is from an open edition portfolio printed in the mid 20th century. The lithograph is laid down on thicker stock and the title is printed on the sheet under the actual lithograph (each litho is lightly tacked onto the larger sheet and may be easily lifted to view the title). Chagall's images are extremely popular today. Please view our other lithographs from this series. Dimensions: 11" x 15" (sheet); actual lithographs vary slightly (please view photos).
Marc Chagall was a Belorussian-born French painter, printmaker, and designer. He is an icon, one of the great 20th century modernists! He composed his images based on emotional and poetic associations, rather than on rules of pictorial logic. Predating Surrealism, his early works, such as I and the Village (1911), were among the first expressions of psychic reality in modern art. His works in various media include sets for plays and ballets, etchings illustrating the Bible, and stained-glass windows.
