This, 1 of 2 pieces we have in the store, is a mixed media work constructed of two horns, a handblown glass canister, copper wire, and what resembles a hay ball, inside the canister— it's made up of some sort of fiber.

Spradling was born in Springfield Missouri, but with a career that took place in Williamsburg Brooklyn, long before that neighborhood became known for Art. "In 1973 he received a BFA from Southwest Missouri State University, and in 1975 an MFA from the Rinehart School of Sculpture, The Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore Maryland. In 1978 he arrived in Williamsburg, a pioneer resident artist."

Gary was later diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. "In the first four years after his diagnosis, Gary created 48 works of art and had written 167poems, which he hoped to publish in three or four volumes. Since that time, he has undoubtedly produced much more. Remarkably he made 12 “foot works” during the last two months before his death." —wahcenter.net
